UTA is expanding its market presence in Eastern Europe

  • UTA acquires majority in Timex Card SP. z o.o. marketing agency
  • Further expansion of business activities in Poland, the Baltic countries and Ukraine

Kleinostheim – 12 January 2018. UNION TANK Eckstein GmbH & Co. KG (UTA) has taken over 51 percent of the shares in the Polish marketing agency Timex Card SP. z o.o., the largest acquisition in the history of the company. This gives the mobility provider a direct and strong presence in Poland, the Baltic countries and Ukraine.

Timex Card SP z o.o. in Poland now represents UTA in the Polish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian markets. At the same time as this takeover, the mobility service provider is also strengthening its business activities in Bulgaria by setting up a separate organisation there. The purchase of the shares enables UTA to expand its presence in Central and Eastern Europe and to efficiently promote the development of its products in this highly dynamic growth region. Poland, one of the leading international transport markets, and the Baltic states make up almost 35 percent of the European cabotage market (with regard to tons per kilometre). “As a result of this transaction, we are now even closer to the customer and are able to offer new products and services even faster”, says Volker Huber, chairman of the board at UTA. “With the purchase, we are also hoping to increase our market share in commercial freight traffic companies as well as for cars and commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons.” Some 1,800 transport companies are currently using UTA’s solutions, which not only include various mobility services, but also interoperable toll solutions and provide access to a network of more than 55,000 acceptance points.

“In line with our development strategy for fleet and mobility solutions (which aims to, among other things, expand the sale of UTA solutions) these transactions will allow us to develop our presence in high growth markets more quickly”, says Antoine Dumurgier, Chief Operating Officer at Edenred Fleet & Mobility Solutions. And it is not just UTA who benefits from the takeover, the Polish sales agency Timex Card does too: “The combination of Edenred’s strong market presence, UTA’s high quality solutions and the many years of industry experience of Timex Card gives us an important lever with which to explore new opportunities”, says Andrzej Sklodowski, Chief Executive Officer at Timex Card. The Polish sales agency has been active in the Polish market for more than 25 years, and for more than ten years in the Baltic countries and in Ukraine.
